Identity verification (IDV)

Understand and test the current mock identity verification flow.

Use the current identity verification, or IDV, feature only to test how verification requests and review statuses move through InsightHire.

Important: the available IDV provider is a mock or stub. It simulates pass and fail results and does not verify a real person's identity. Do not use it as evidence for an employment decision or describe it to candidates as a production identity check.

This optional feature may not be enabled for every organization.

What is available today

  • Organization settings for enabling the test flow.
  • Creation of test verification sessions after an application or at selected hiring stages.
  • A candidate-facing mock page that can simulate a passed or failed result.
  • Pending and failed test results shown in the fraud queue.

Names for Persona, Onfido, and Stripe Identity may be reserved in the product, but their native production experiences are stubs and are not implemented here.

Before you test

  1. Confirm that your organization has the DEI & Compliance package.
  2. Use test candidates only.
  3. Do not upload real identity documents, selfies, or sensitive personal information.
  4. Tell everyone involved that the result is simulated.
  5. Decide how you will remove or clearly label test records afterward.

Enable the mock flow

  1. Open the compliance settings in InsightHire.
  2. Find Identity verification.
  3. Turn on identity verification for applications and selected hiring stages.
  4. Choose Mock as the provider.
  5. Save your changes.
  6. Submit a test application or move it to a configured stage.
  7. Open the test verification link and simulate a result.
  8. Confirm the status appears on the test application and, when applicable, in the fraud queue.

The mock flow may create a session when a careers application is submitted or when an application reaches Screening, Offer sent, or Hired and has not already passed the test.

Review a test result

Mock results may appear as:

  • Pending: the simulation has not finished.
  • Passed: the mock was told to return a successful result.
  • Failed: the mock was told to return an unsuccessful result.
  • Expired: the test session is no longer active.

These labels describe only the simulation. They do not confirm or challenge a person's real identity.

Fraud queue behavior

Pending or failed mock sessions may place the application in the fraud queue or raise its displayed risk score. Reviewers must treat this as test behavior.

Fraud scores and trust flags are human review aids, not automatic decisions. See Fraud queue.

Production use

Do not enable IDV for real candidates based on this guide. A production rollout would require a completed vendor integration, security and privacy review, candidate notices and consent, retention rules, accessibility review, and end-to-end verification by InsightHire and your organization.
