Create your first position

Step-by-step guide to opening a role, requirements, pipeline, and publishing.

A position is an open role in InsightHire. It holds the job description, scoring criteria, pipeline stage, attached journey, and publishing settings.

Before you start

  • Org admin has configured branding (optional but recommended for careers page).
  • You know which journey candidates will complete (create one first if needed).
  • If using job governance, confirm requisition approval is complete.

Step 1 — Create the position

  1. Go to Dashboard → Positions → Create position.
  2. Enter title, department, location (onsite/remote/hybrid), and employment type.
  3. Write the description and requirements. Requirements drive resume scoring weights.

Custom fields (flag: custom_fields)

When enabled, org-defined fields appear on the create/edit form — e.g. cost center, headcount priority, hiring manager picklist. Define fields under Settings → Custom Fields before creating positions.

Step 2 — Scoring & qualification

On the position edit screen:

SectionWhat it controls
Resume criteriaEducation, experience, skills with weights
Minimum scoreAuto-reject or flag below threshold
Culture profile (flag)Culture fit dimension in composite score
Video / assessment weightsHow journey outputs combine in ranking

InsightHire computes a composite score (0–100) shown in the review queue. Individual dimension scores remain visible for transparency.

Step 3 — Attach a journey

Under Journey, select an existing journey or create inline. Every applicant (careers apply or invite) receives this flow unless overridden per candidate.

Typical first journey:

  1. Welcome + instructions
  2. Async video (3–5 role questions)
  3. Optional skills assessment
  4. Thank you / next steps

Step 4 — Pipeline & team

  • Assign recruiter owner and hiring managers.
  • Choose pipeline template — default stages or custom (flag: custom_pipelines).
  • Default stages: Applied → Screening → Interview → Offer → Hired.

Step 5 — Publish

  • New applications appear under Candidates and Review queue when journey steps complete.
  • Use Activity and position Analytics tab for funnel health.
  • Edit requirements anytime — AI re-scores new submissions; existing scores update on re-run where configured.
