Verify a candidate

Confirm a person's contact details, identity, employer and trade licence before you spend time on them — with a score out of 100 and the evidence behind it.

Verify answers one question: is this person who the page says they are, and can you actually reach them? It checks contact details against enrichment providers, cross-checks the name and employer, looks the licence up in public state registries, and shows you every source it used.

Verify appears on sourced people in a position's Source tab and on a candidate's own page. Before it has run, the badge reads Not verified.

Run a check

  1. Open the person, on the Source tab or on their candidate page.
  2. Choose Verify.
  3. Wait a few seconds for the checks to finish.
  4. Read the result, then Re-verify later if their details go stale.

If the button is disabled, no enrichment provider is configured on your server — ask your InsightHire contact.

The checks

CheckWorthWhat it tells you
Email address20Whether there is a deliverable email address that a provider confirmed, rather than one nobody has tested
Employer and title20Whether the employer and job title on record agree with what the providers return
Trade licence30Whether a licence in this name is active in a public state registry
Phone number15Whether a phone number was found
Identity match15Whether the name on the provider's record is the same person
Already in your candidates—Whether someone else in your organization already has this email or phone

Each check comes back as Confirmed, Partly, Conflict or Unknown.

Two checks can carry no weight:

  • Already in your candidates never counts toward the score. It is there so you do not work a candidate a colleague is already talking to.
  • Trade licence is marked "not scored" when no public registry covers that trade in that state. It is not counted against the person — see the state coverage list.

The score

The score is the weight the person earned out of the weight that could be checked. Confirmed earns the full weight, Partly earns half, Unknown and Conflict earn none. Checks that could not be scored are left out of both sides, so a person in a state with no registry is not punished for it.

Read it as a colour, not a grade: 75 and above is good, 45 to 74 is worth a look, below 45 means something did not line up. There is no pass mark, and InsightHire does not label anyone "strong" or "weak" on the strength of it.

The evidence trail

Expand the verification to see what was actually found. For each check you get a plain sentence — "Journeyman Electrician #12345 is active with Texas TDLR (expires 2027-05-12)" — and, where there is one, a link straight to the registry record. The trail also records which providers were called, in order, how many credits the run used, and the date it ran.

Use the trail. The score is a summary; the sentence and the link are the thing you would actually repeat to a hiring manager.

What Verify does not do

  • It is not a background check. For criminal, education or employment screening, order a background check.
  • Identity and employer matching is a name and wording comparison, not certified identity verification. A matching surname and a shortened first name counts as a match.
  • It never overwrites contact details you already have. It only fills in an email, phone or profile link that was empty.
  • An unknown licence is not proof of no licence. It usually means the state publishes nothing that can be checked automatically.

Allowance

Verify is included in the Hire plan and has no monthly cap. Runs are metered so you can see usage under Settings → Plan & features, but a check is never blocked for going over.

Each run can spend enrichment credits, so re-verify people when something has changed rather than as a habit.
